In addition, for those who don't know, of all the major platforms, youtube offers its creators the lowest revenue split for short content. I'd love to find a way for creators to audit them to find out what their team of accountants is pulling off on the backend. This is a money grab by YouTube, plain & simple. Multiply that by 10s of billions of views every month. Youtube keeps 100% of the money generated by each of those shorts over the duration they've been deemed ineligible. This explains why many creators report having every short limited & then waiting for weeks to get them reviewed. This means that YouTube keeps 100% of all the revenue that would've been allocated to ineligible videos. The article also mentions that "Revenue associated with views of Shorts that are determined to be ineligible." is NOT included in the creator pool. That's exactly what's being done with shorts. Imagine you have a yellow $ on one of your long form videos, but YouTube places premium ads on it anyway, they just don't pay you for them. If they follow community guidelines & are allowed to stay up in between ads, they earn a share of the ad revenue they help generate, & the creator should be paid what they earned. Therefore, none of the shorts placed between ads should ever get a yellow $. So it's not like long form videos where advertisers can choose not to place ads on your content. This one in particular has to do with shorts.Ī google article I read explains that the way monetization works for shorts, is that ads are placed in between shorts, & the ad revenue is added up, YouTube takes its 55%, & the rest is split amongst creators according to the views they gain in a given time period (minus music fees) This is just one of a few sketchy things I've noticed about how YouTube conducts business with its creators. I feel this needs to be shared with YouTube creators.
